A delivery fee is payable and is determined by where the delivery has to be done. We have access to large 32 ton interlink delivery vehicles for large and long distant loads. However, in the Lowveld, we are lucky that our winters are fairly mild and, with the right care and attention, instant lawn can be laid during our colder months. The best way to reduce costs is to lay the instant lawn sods in a checkerboard pattern, leaving alternate blocks empty. Fill in the empty blocks with a mixture of fine compost, or lawn dressing, and clean river sand. This nutritious mixture encourages the grass to spread into the space and you should end up with a healthy, even lawn. For the first mowing, the blade should be a little higher than normal. You can give it a fairly deep watering but not so much at the water pools and leaves the lawn looking wet and sodden. Do not underwater your instant lawn and allow it to dry out. The rule of thumb is to only remove one third of each grass blade. If too much of the top growth is constantly removed, the roots will weaken and will not support healthy growth. If the blades are blunt, they will tear up the grass and the result will be ugly. Water deeply and infrequently in the cooler months, rather than giving less water more often. This encourages the lawn to grow deep and strong roots that are able to generate and support healthy foliage. Your lawn needs about 25mm of water per week, so use a measuring jug (placed under the spray) to make sure you are not wasting water. They will munch on these delectable treats and do the job for you. Use fast-acting fertilisers every four to six weeks throughout summer; a slow-release fertiliser should be applied every eight weeks in the colder months. It is recommended you feed your lawn each spring, summer and autumn. Always remember to water deeply immediately after application. In summer it is more cost-effective to wait for a light rainfall and apply during or immediately afterwards. Aerating involves using a garden fork or a special spiking tool to relieve compaction. It also allows more air to reach the roots which results in healthy growth. It is recommended you aerate your lawn in autumn to prepare for the colder winter months and repair damage from heavier traffic on the lawn in the summer months. The areas to concentrate on are pathways that have been created in your lawn and other areas where the soil has become compacted.
