The staff at Council for a Strong America is comprised of experienced and dedicated individuals who are guided by the belief that strengthening families, communities, the economy, and our national security is the key to a strong nation. More than 5,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, other law enforcement executives, and violence survivors comprise the membership of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids. Founded in 1996, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids takes a hard-nosed look at the strategies proven to reduce crime. Armed with research, our members make the case for solutions that cut crime and put kids on the path to productive lives. Evidence-based, voluntary parent coaching programs for new parents to prevent child abuse and neglect. High-quality early childhood education that increases educational success and graduation rates. Proven coaching programs that strengthen families and get troubled kids back on track. Fight Crime: Invest in Kids’ Police Training Institute trains in-service officers and recruits on how to effectively de-escalate conflict and have safe, positive interactions with at-risk young people. As members, our solutions for the educational and mental health challenges that lead kids down the path to criminal activity are always based on research, our firsthand experience, and the certainty that public safety depends on putting more kids on the right track. Council for a Strong America has a 20-year track record of strengthening families, communities, the economy, and our national security. Our more than 9,000 members, who bring decades of expertise and leadership across our communities and at the state and national levels to promote evidence-based policies that strengthen our country. In 1996, a few of the nation’s top police chiefs realized that, to get to the root of our crime problem, our country needed to put more kids on a track to success in life. Relying on research and their proven expertise, our members are working in nearly every state and in the halls of Congress to shape the debate around issues ranging from early education to healthy school foods. In 2016, Council for a Strong America’s members met with the top leaders in Congress, state legislators in 30 states, and 10 of the presidential candidates to educate them about the importance of investments in children, youth, and families. Over the past four years, our work has generated over 300 million media impressions and appeared in every major publication in the country including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, USA Today, CNN, MSNBC, Politico, and The Hill. Council for a Strong America helped preserve tax credits that make work pay for 8 million families. As a result, 8 million children in working families are less likely to be in poverty and become involved in crime. Council for a Strong America protected or increased investments in early childhood programs in 27 states in Council for a Strong America is championing national juvenile justice system reform. Our police chiefs, sheriffs, and prosecutors and sports leaders are working to reauthorize the federal Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA), prioritizing evidence-based recidivism programs that reduce crime. Over the past three years, our members have worked to improve healthcare for children in Arizona, Michigan, Ohio, and Utah. Council for a Strong America expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in three states. Council for a Strong America is working to improve the lives of children and expand military eligibility among young Americans. Council for a Strong America made healthy school foods a reality for 30 million students.
